THE DETAILS

This piece is from the Impact 21 era, the stretch of time when Ralph Lauren licensed production to the Japanese company Impact 21 for the Japan market. They handled a huge amount of RL’s Japan-exclusive outerwear, denim, and tailored pieces from the late 80s through early 2000s. Quality from this period is consistently strong: denser cotton weaves, better finishing, and construction that feels more like old-school RL than most modern pieces. Japan’s retail standards were extremely high, so Impact 21 runs tend to hold up and age better than equivalent U.S. retail lines from the same period.

Cotton utility jacket with suede quilted shoulder patch, corduroy collar, button front and multiple pockets.

Best fits US 10. See measurements below for accuracy.

SIZING NOTE

Flat lay measurements in description, chart is below.

The size shown online is matched to the chart (not always the same as the tag). Vintage sizing is all over the place, so go by the numbers for the best fit.

What are flat lay measurements?

Flat lay measurements are taken with the garment laid flat on a surface. Bust (pit-to-pit), waist, and hips are measured straight across and then doubled to show full circumference. These line up with the size chart below.

Other details like inseam, rise, sleeve length, and hems are listed as-is in the description.

TRANSLATED TAGS

Some care labels are in other languages. I use Google Translate to provide the English version. It’s generally accurate, but allow for a small margin of error in wording.

SUSTAINABILITY

I’m not about to pretend I live a zero-waste, hand-weave-my-own-toothbrush lifestyle. I don’t.

What I can do is push you toward vintage and secondhand instead of buying new. It’s one of the easiest ways to keep clothes in circulation, cut down on waste, and feel a little less guilty about the pile in your cart (as long as you shop it here, obviously 😏).

FINAL SALE POLICY

All sales final. Consider this your commitment ceremony.

Read the policy if you like fine print.

REALITY CHECK

All sales are final.
This is vintage/secondhand. One-of-one, not mass-produced. Returns and refunds aren’t industry standard, and here’s why:

  • Every piece is unique. There isn’t another one in a warehouse waiting to replace it.
  • Most sellers aren’t marking up like big-box retail. Those guys add 100% - 200% on top (yes, that $80 shirt is $20 of fabric and $60 of audacity). They run on volume, steady supply, and a built-in returns budget. Vintage and secondhand margins are slimmer, closer to 30–60%. There’s no extra cushion to eat returns.
  • These pieces aren’t meant to rack up frequent flyer miles. Every extra trip breaks them down, which kills the point of keeping them alive.

So: check photos, read the notes, ask questions if you need.
This isn’t fast fashion with a 30-day return label. It’s the opposite (and that’s the point).

SIZE CHART

Tags are cute, measurements are facts. Think of this chart as a cheat sheet. A "size 6" in 1999 and a "size 6" today are not the same species.
